Truman State’s music department is offering a songwriting course for the first time this fall.
Music department chair Jay Bulen said while the songwriting course does not fulfill the Aesthetic-Visual and Performing Arts LSP mode, it does count toward the 63-hour Liberal Arts and Sciences graduation requirement. Bulen said this is because of the larger understanding the creation of music requires.
Bulen said part of the music department’s mission is to bring learning experiences students will value. He said the songwriting course provides another opportunity to teach through a musical endeavor. He said the music department’s mission statement intends to provide challenging and creative instruction. […]
