Three Truman State students were arrested during two separate incidents for various assault and sex crimes.
The first incident took place last December, when a Truman student allegedly had sexual intercourse with the victim by use of forcible compulsion. The suspect allegedly restrained the victim unlawfully and without consent, allegedly exposed the victim to the risk of physical injury and allegedly purposely prevented or dissuaded the victim from making any report of rape to Kirksville or Truman law enforcement entities. The suspect was arrested Feb. 4 and placed in the custody of the Adair County Detention Center for rape, felonious restraint and tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution.
According to the Kirksville Police Department’s probable cause report, an officer was dispatched to Truman’s Department of Public Safety office Jan. 31 for assistance, where the victim reported the crimes that allegedly had occurred Dec. 12. According to the report, the victim said she was invited to the suspect’s apartment for dinner the night of the incident. She informed officers she had met him twice at parties and the suspect had made sexual advances toward her while in an intoxicated state, according to the report.
The victim said the suspect picked her up from her residence hall during the night of the incident, according to the report. The victim informed officers the suspect had several knives and a gun located in his apartment. She said the suspect started making sexual advances toward her during dinner. The suspect allegedly tried to convince the victim to engage in sexual intercourse a few more times before he took away her cell phone and locked the front door of his apartment. The suspect allegedly informed the victim he had raped a girl in his home country by knife point previously, according to the report.
The suspect then allegedly forced the victim into his bedroom and onto his bed before tying her down with what the victim described as a bicycle lock, according to the report. After this, the victim alleged the suspect started to take her back to her residence hall and threatened her not to tell anyone about what had happened. The suspect only returned the victim to her residence hall after she agreed not to tell anyone about the incident, according to the report.
The suspect’s bond was set at $150,000.
The second incident occurred Jan. 31. Two Truman students were arrested and charged, one with assault and the other with sexual misconduct. According to the Kirksville Police Department’s probable cause report, the two students were detained because of their alleged aggressive behavior toward patrons standing outside of Wrongdaddy’s and Geno’s 70s Club on The Square. According to the report, one suspect allegedly groped a woman and the other suspect allegedly punched the woman in the face as her husband allegedly tried to push them off of his wife. All involved parties were intoxicated, according to the report.
The victims indicated they would press charges against the two men, according to the report. The punishment for assault is one year of imprisonment, a fine not exceeding $1,000 or both a fine and jail time. The punishment for sexual misconduct is six months of imprisonment, a fine not exceeding $500, or both.
