Since its inception as a glossy print magazine in 1996 at Truman State University by an visionary group of students, Detours has gone on to produce over 40 print issues that have been distributed throughout the tri-state area. After almost 20 years of print publications, Detours ended its print era in 2015 with a “Best Of Detours” print issue highlighting the best stories over the print magazine’s tenure.
To move forward with the publishing industry, Detours officially shifted to solely producing the magazine digitally in 2015. Both the bi-annual digital magazine and the Detours website offer engaging multimedia content feature restaurants, sightseeing attractions and distinctive lodging opportunities. We also feature a bi-annual photo contest highlighting the best photography in the Midwest.
Detours is also proud to be a part of Truman’s student-run media, the Truman Media Network, which provides news coverage for the Truman and Kirksville community. Detours and TMN come together with local and travel content with Detours: At Home and Abroad, and work closely together to provide real-world journalism training for students.
