Kirksville Police Chief Steve Farnsworth has died, the City of Kirksville announced Oct. 11.
A cause of death has not been announced. Farnsworth began serving as Kirksville Police Chief Sept. 4, 2019. Deputy Police Chief Justin Jones has begun serving as interim police chief in the wake of the loss.
“The City of Kirksville is shocked and saddened at the passing of Chief of Police Steve Farnsworth,” the city’s announcement stated. “Steve was a champion of community policing and will be sorely missed by the community he served. We ask that residents join us in keeping Steve’s family – and especially his sons – in their thoughts.”
Truman State University Department of Public Safety took to social media to express its thoughts on Farnsworth’s passing.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters in blue with the passing of Kirksville Police Chief, Steve Farnsworth,” DPS posted on Twitter. “He was a great friend, co-worker and brother. Rest easy Steve. We will take it from here.”
