Autopsy report on student death to be available in 6 to 9 weeks

Two Truman State University student deaths occurred during August. Sophomores Alex Mullins and Jacob Hughes were found dead in separate incidents on Aug. 8 and 27, respectively. Both Mullins and Hughes were active members of Alpha Kappa Lambda fraternity.

Truman Media Network previously reported on resources available to students who needed support.

Detective Nathan Selby of the Kirksville Police Department has since released details regarding Hughes’ death.

“When I got there, I was briefed on what had happened,” Selby says. “I interviewed people on scene and off schene. I took pictures and drew a diagram of the room.”

Selby says Hughes was found at the AKL fraternity house on Osteopathy Street. He says Hughes was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was unable to comment on whether drugs or alcohol were involved.

Selby says he attended the autopsy and followed up on leads he had gotten throughout the case. The autopsy report will be available in about 6 to 9 weeks, he says.

TMN will provide more information as it becomes available.
