Women’s basketball narrowly loses to Maryville

Truman State University’s women’s basketball team fell just short of beating Maryville University on Thursday night, losing 82-80.

This loss extends the Bulldogs’ losing streak to four games, and their GLVC record drops to an even 5-5. The Bulldogs now rank seventh in the GLVC.

The Saints took a 4-point lead in the first quarter and, try as they might, the Bulldogs couldn’t recover. Truman chipped away at that lead with each quarter, narrowing the margin down to 2 points in the fourth quarter, but the Bulldogs couldn’t get past that and the game ended in their loss.

Freshman center Katie Jaseckas led the team in points scored with 18 points, her personal best since Dec. 2017, followed by forwards junior Rachel Edmundson and senior Sam Andrews with 14 points each. Andrews’ performance particularly stood out — her 14 points was a personal season high, and she went 4-5 on three-pointer attempts.

The Bulldogs will seek revenge against Drury University on their turf at 5:30 p.m. next Thursday.
