The ambiance screams young and hip, while the brews are more traditional.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s kind of fun to recreate a beer style that you\u2019re familiar with and try to perfect [it],\u201d Kuplent says. \u201cIt\u2019s also just kind of fun to come up with a new recipe using a new hop variety or a new type of yeast [you\u2019ve never] used before. Both have [their] appeal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kuplent says he has been in the brewing business for a while and has a degree in brewing from a German university. Though UCBC has had its hiccups \u2014 such as difficulty in installing its first bottle filler \u2014 most things have run relatively smoothly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI have not had any major things where I said, \u2018Hey, I should not have done this, or we should not have set Urban Chestnut up,\u2019\u201d Kuplent says. \u201cIt\u2019s been a lot of fun, and I enjoy everything very much.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From the start, the public reception of UCBC has been positive. The Reverence Series features traditional European styles, while the Revolution Series features experimental and craft styles.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kuplent says in addition to the support from the public, he thinks there is a sense of camaraderie between brewers and breweries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYes, we do sell the same product, so to some degree, there is competition, but it\u2019s all a big family and we\u2019re part of a St. Louis Brewers Guild,\u201d Kuplent says. \u201cWe organize festivals together, and we just had our fifth anniversary festival and pretty much invited everybody in St. Louis, and there were 20-plus breweries that showed up to pour beer at our festival.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kuplent says the craft beer movement probably has opened consumers up to the idea of trying more and different beers. As people are exposed to different styles of beers and the concept of a local brewery, Kuplent says they\u2019re more likely to try new varieties.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Tell us about your beer<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Trademark:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cI\u2019m originally from Germany \u2014 I grew up there, but I didn\u2019t just want to focus on German-style beers, so we kind of gave ourselves some license to do whatever we want to do, and so we came up with a concept where we basically have two line-ups,\u201d Kuplent says. \u201cOne is more classic European styles, and then the other is more craft styles \u2014 trial or experimental styles.
