Our View on International Students Visa Revocation

In the April 24 issue of The Index, News Editor Vince Jones wrote a story on an email sent to International students on April 10. The email outlined how non-citizen students could stay safe amid the revocation of student VISAs at other Missouri colleges such as Northwest Missouri State University. This revocation has not yet made its way to Truman State University. Still, the proximity has resulted in distress among Kirksville students due to the awareness and propinquity of the issue.

The Editorial Board believes the University’s administration should do everything in their power to protect the students at risk of getting their VISAs revoked. “Feel Connected: Academically, socially and professionally – an education that connects international students for life” is the motto that is marked to international students on the Truman State University website. Nearly 12% of all undergraduate students are international — this number is indicative of the need to protect these students and stand with them throughout these insecure times.

Truman is a place where students can thrive in a liberal arts atmosphere, and a quality education at an affordable price. The Index believes that all students regardless of their citizenship status should have access to the opportunities the school provides and be able to continue their education safely.
