Bulldogs bash GLVC opponent S&T Miners for first win
The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the season against the Missouri S&T Miners Sept. 19 with a final score of 42-14. The Bulldogs started off slow in the first quarter with both teams failing to score in the opening quarter. Things started to click for the Bulldogs in the second quarter with three touchdowns scored in that quarter alone.
The game was effectively over with the S&T Miners offense struggling to string drives together late in the game. The Bulldogs defense caused one turnover with junior linebacker Dalton Brown snagging the first interception of his career. Brown and the defense held the Miners offense to just 77 yards rushing.
Senior linebacker Jack Weltha led the team with seven tackles and said picking up their first win of the season meant a lot to the team.
“We knew we just had to execute a lot better and just continue to keep working on our communication,” Weltha said. “Winning solves a lot of problems. And it felt so good, especially as we all went through. We felt like we kept getting better each week, but the needle wasn’t turning into our favor.”
Senior quarterback Dylan Hair ended the night with 3 total touchdowns, 337 total yards and an interception. Things improved for the Bulldogs when Hair threw a 49 yard strike to sophomore receiver Kai Crowe, setting up a seven yard touchdown run by sophomore running back Madden Irving.
“We were just beating ourselves [in the first quarter,]” Hair said. “It was nothing they were doing. We just got to go out there and execute our plays…We hadn’t played a GLVC team, so starting off 1-0 is a great start.”
