Chick-fil-A ribbon cutting ceremony to announce 30-minute parking spots

Following the completion of the Chick-fil-A upgrade from an express to a full sized restaurant, Truman State University will host two ribbon cutting ceremonies where Tyana Lange, vice president for student engagement and marketing will give further details on nine new 30-minute parking spots on campus during Aug. 23.

The parking spots will be reserved for the Chick-Fil-A, Einstein Bro’s Bagels, and the University Bookstore, and they will be implemented later this semester. The spots selected are currently staff and guest parking.

“It’s to help encourage people to come in, get Einstein’s, go to the bookstore, get Chick-fil-A, take your 30 minutes, and leave,” Sara Seifert, Department of Public Safety chief  said, “That way those parking spots aren’t taken up all day. So people are able to come in and out.”

Seifert and DPS enforce Truman’s parking policies. These 30-minute spots which once required parking passes, are now free for anyone to use on weekends and weekdays .

The first ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 10:30 a.m. during Aug. 18 in the Student Union Building and is for the university students. The second ribbon cutting ceremony is classified as an open house for the Kirksville community at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during Aug. 23. The event will be in the SUB to highlight Chick-fil-A’s upgrades and new availability for the Kirksville community, with parking for Chick-fil-A being campus-wide on weekends and after 5 p.m. on weekdays.

“The plan is to have Spike and the Chick-fil-A cow both help [President] Sue Thomas cut the ribbon,” Lange said, “Free samples of new products [mac and cheese and kale crunch] as well as give-aways.”
