Bulldog volleyball enters two conference matchups this weekend against Drury and Southwest Baptist University with an 0-15 record and an 0-3 record in conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off four straight five set matches including a hard fought match with conference leader Quincy Oct 5.
The Bulldogs and Hawks traded sets with the Hawks winning the first and third and the Bulldogs winning the second and fourth before losing 12-15 in the fifth set. This was a promising outing for the Bulldogs versus a good team in QU who is 15-1 on the year and 4-0 in GLVC play.
Five set matches have been a common theme for Truman this year. They’ve played a total of ten, five set matches out of fifteen matches played. Although the Bulldogs played well in the first four sets they had a streak of poor play in the fifth being able to seal the deal and get that first win of the year.
However, they have a good opportunity to do so against Drury, the Bulldogs are 18-8-1 all-time against the Panthers and won in their last matchup last year. Their history against the Bearcats is equally as favorable as the bulldogs enter their matchup Saturday with a 53-8 record, but they did lose to SBU on Sept 20 of this year in tournament play in a five set match very similar to their loss to Quincy.
Bulldog fans hope the match against Drury will fall in the Bulldogs favor as they take on the Panthers this Friday Oct 11.
