Truman State University’s men’s basketball team lost to the Drury University team Monday night 98-96 after the Panthers scored a buzzer-beating three-pointer to beat the Bulldogs.
This game ends Truman’s five-game winning streak and drops the team to third place in the GLVC, tied with William Jewell College and Maryville University. The Bulldogs have a 10-6 record overall so far this season.
Though the Panthers had the lead after the first half, the Bulldogs came back in the second to force the game into overtime. Junior guard Jake Velky scored the final points of the game to give Truman a one-point lead with 4.7 seconds left, but Andrew Ballock of the Panthers made a three-point shot from the left corner as the clock ran out to give Drury the win.
Truman also made school history by making 28 of 29 attempted free throws, the highest ever free throw percentage with more than 23 makes for the Bulldogs. That’s also Truman’s seventh-best percentage for a game with 10 or more makes.
The Bulldogs are now headed on a road trip to face the University of Indianapolis, a team they’ve faced four times and never defeated. They will play the Greyhounds at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
