The GLVC has canceled or postponed all 2020 competition, practices, team activities and postseason events until April 6 because of the COVID-19 virus.
These cancelations interrupt play for Truman State University baseball, softball, track and field, golf and tennis.
On April 6, the GLVC will review the league suspension and determine what to do from there.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators and fans is our top priority, as is our responsibility to take these unprecedented actions to address this public health crisis,” Jeff Smith, GLVC associate commissioner, said.
The NCAA has also canceled postseason championships, disrupting the men’s basketball and the men’s and women’s swim teams’ seasons.
The men’s basketball team recently won its first GLVC tournament and secured a spot in the NCAA tournament before it was canceled. The swim teams also had multiple qualifiers.
The men’s basketball team received the news while en route to the tournament.
With the GLVC and NCAA cancelations, teams cannot conduct any activities through April 6 and won’t have access to Pershing Arena.
