Truman State University’s women’s basketball team defeated William Jewell College 61-56 Thursday evening after a nail-biting fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs lost to the Cardinals two weeks ago 52-49 and went into this Thursday’s game thirsty for vengeance. The game tied the ’Dogs’ and Cardinals’ for second place in the GLVC West with 9-8 records.
The ’Dogs gradually increased their lead throughout the first three quarters, peaking at a 12-point lead with 5:39 left on the clock, when the Cardinals went on a 16-4 tear to tie the game with 48 seconds left. Sophomore guard Sloane Totta then scored a 3-pointer to seal Truman’s victory, followed by two free throws by junior forward Rachel Edmundson to end the game with a 5-point lead.
Senior guard Remy Davenport, Totta and Edmundson made a triple 10-point threat for the Bulldogs, with Edmundson coming in two rebounds shy of a double-double.
Truman will celebrate Senior Day when they face University of Illinois-Springfield at 1 p.m. Saturday in Kirksville.
