The women’s basketball team advanced to the GLVC semifinals Friday night after defeating No. 5 Maryville University 88-82 in overtime.
This win put the Bulldogs at 23-6 for the season, the most wins in a single season for Truman’s women’s basketball program.
The Saints were one of the few teams to beat the Bulldogs during regular season. Maryville guard Mary Barton scored a game-high 23 points against the Bulldogs in their Jan. 19 meeting, which the Saints won 85-78.
Barton posed a similar threat to the ’Dogs in the quarterfinals, posting 16 points by the end of the third quarter. The Saints had a 14-point lead going into the fourth, but the Bulldogs outscored the Saints 21-7 in the final 10 minutes of regulation to tie the game. Truman went on to beat the Saints in overtime with seven straight free throws in 17 seconds.
Bulldog guard Sloane Totta led the game in points with a career-high 29 points and went 6-8 from the free throw line, five of which came in overtime. Forward Maddie Re also landed her sixth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Re is the only member of the women’s basketball team to achieve any double-doubles so far this season.
The ’Dogs return to the Vadalabene Center at 8:30 p.m. tonight to play in the semifinals of the GLVC Championship tournament against Drury University, the No. 1 Div. II team in the nation.
Truman met Drury earlier this season where they experienced a 72-66 defeat.
