When I arrived on campus almost two years ago, I knew I wanted to join the student newspaper. I did not know I would be its Editor-in-Chief so soon. It is a great honor to serve in this role, and I’m looking forward to overseeing this fantastic newspaper and the quality student journalism we produce each week.
I began my journey at The Index as a staff writer in the news section within my first month on campus. Without any experience and only an underdeveloped interest in journalism, I joined staff and quickly became enamored with every part. I even switched my major because I was having so much fun. Since then, I became the news editor and then managing editor, and my admiration for this news outlet hasn’t wavered a bit. I have enjoyed serving the Truman State University and Kirksville communities by covering important subjects each week and writing the occasional entertainment piece. Not only do I enjoy helping produce content, I have had a blast working with everyone on staff, several of whom are graduating this year and will be sorely missed.
I want to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to those who have mentored me over the past two years. From my first editor Nicolas Telep, who was sure I would stay with Truman Media Network throughout my time at Truman, to the outgoing Editor-in-Chief Brently Snead, who has shaped my path more than anyone else, helped foster my love and appreciation for journalism, and taught me so much about the trade. Thank you for everything you have done.
The Editor-in-Chief position is a lot of responsibility, but I am happy to be the one chosen for the job. I will continue working to ensure this newspaper is producing the best news and entertainment every Thursday and that we look good doing it.
I also want to say a special thank you to our readers. Without you, we wouldn’t be doing this and having such a wonderful time. I look forward to continue serving you.
