Maxwell’s, a restaurant in downtown Kirksville, has re-opened after being closed for almost a year. The restaurant closed last September when owner and Vietnam war veteran Steve Taylor needed to receive treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. Taylor says he was cleared by his doctor to re-open Maxwell’s, and is excited about his new staff, including North Carolinian chef Mindy Young.
Taylor says that the reconstruction process cost more than 100,000 dollars, but is optimistic about the future of the restaurant.
“The basement had two inches of water in it, and it took 6,000 dollars just in dumpster fees to get rid of all the trash in the basement,” Taylor says. “And we had to de-mold it, so I spend 100,000 dollars before I got up to the first floor. But that was then, this is now. I’m ready to go forward.”
