Clinton, Trump lead Missouri

With neck-and-neck results on both party lines and 99 percent of counties reporting results, Hillary Clinton narrowly leads the Democratic primary for Missouri, while Donald Trump narrowly leads Missouri for the Republicans. Clinton is leading with 49.6 percent, or 310,602 votes, while Trump leads with 40.8 percent, or 381,720 votes.

The race in Missouri is extremely close, with both candidates leading by less than 2,000 votes. Sen. Bernie Sanders comes in a close second at 49.4 percent, or 309,071 votes, while Cruz comes in at 40.7 percent, or 380,084 votes.

With a race this close, it is likely both Sanders and Cruz will call for recounts.

March 15 also marks the primaries for Florida, Illinois, North Carolina and Ohio. On the Republican side, Trump won in Florida, Illinois and North Carolina, in addition to his lead in Missouri. Gov. John Kasich won his home state of Ohio.

For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton has won Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Illinois, in addition to her lead in Missouri. Unless a recount changes the votes, Sanders will not have secured any wins.

UPDATE AS OF 3/18/16: Clinton has officially won the Missouri Primary as of Thursday evening. Sanders says he will not seek a recount of the votes. In an interview with Associated Press, he states, “I think it’s unlikely the results will impact at all the number of delegates the candidate gets and I would prefer to save the taxpayers of Missouri some money.”

According to the same AP article, this means that Clinton will receive two more delegates from Missouri.

No winner has been yet announced on the Republican side.
