Truman State University’s men’s basketball team won both their games this weekend to tie for second place in the GLVC overall.
Throughout the season, the Bulldogs had been hovering between second and fifth place in the GLVC while alternating their wins and losses between their first and second games against Rockhurst University. Then the ’Dogs went on a 6-1 tear for the last seven games of the season to reach a 13-5 conference record and become co-champions of the GLVC West with Drury University.
The Bulldogs denied revenge to William Jewell College on Thursday as they won 90-85 even after giving up a 16-point lead in the second half. Redshirt senior forward Zach Fischer helped the ’Dogs stay on top, tying his then-season-best 26 points along with 14 rebounds to earn a double-double. Redshirt freshman guard Turner Scott, redshirt sophomore guard Brodric Thomas and redshirt junior guard Jacob Socha also scored double-digit points in the game.
On Saturday the Bulldogs soundly defeated University of Illinois Springfield 86-47 for their Senior Day. Fischer set his new season high in points and scored his sixteenth double-double of the season with 30 points and 13 rebounds. Thomas and junior guard Nathan Messer each scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The men’s team will play No. 7 Lewis University in a quarterfinal at noon Friday in Edwardsville, Illinois.
