Card making event for National Day of Giving

Giving Tuesday, or National Day of Giving, is coming to Truman State for the first time from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m, Dec. 1, in the SUB Down Under.

The event is being organized for a COMM 353: Public Relations project.

“We wanted to get the Truman campus in the Christmas spirit and give back to those in need during this time,” senior Kenady Moore says.

Giving Tuesday was created by New York City cultural center 92nd Street Y during 2012 to contrast the consumerism-based Black Friday and Cyber Monday following Thanksgiving.

“We chose to make holiday cards for Kirksville Manor Care,” senior Audrey Masek says. “Anybody can just drop by and make a card really quick and we’re gonna donate all of those cards to the residents.”

Moore shared why Giving Tuesday is more than a project for her and her group.

“I love giving back to those who need it the most,” Moore says. “I feel that it is really important to remember those who don’t have family during the holidays to make sure they feel special too and know there’s people out there who care.”
