Wrestling falls then redeems on weekend roadtrip

Truman State University’s wrestling team lost both of its duals on Saturday against Bellarmine University and University of Indianapolis, but redeemed themselves the next day at the Greyhound Open in Indianapolis by sending five wrestlers to podiums.

The Bulldogs went into the weekend road trip after previously securing their first win of the season and hoping to extend it into a streak. Instead, on Saturday, Bellarmine took a 33-15 victory and Indianapolis won 48-3.

Redshirt junior Caleb Osborn picked up two decisions and was the only Bulldog to taste victory in both of Saturday’s duals. The rest of the Bulldogs’ points came against Bellarmine — senior Luke Komotos also scored a decision, junior Sam Reeves earned a major decision and sophomore Ashton Mutuwa achieved a technical fall.

By contrast, at the Greyhound Open, Reeves and Komotos ranked fifth in their respective classes, freshman Nick Peglow ranked sixth, and Osborn and sophomore Shane Gallagher each ranked seventh.

Truman will host their final two GLVC duals of the season against University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Drury University at 1 p.m. next Sunday.
