Exhibit features local artists

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Students who frequent the Pickler Memorial Library Starbucks might have noticed artwork ranging from oil pastel landscapes to stained glass hanging on the cafe walls.

These works of art were created by the members of the Missouri and Southern Iowa art guild. The exhibit began Aug. 17 and will close Dec. 11. MOSI will host an art show at the library cafe 5:30-7 p.m. today, Sept. 24, for Truman State students and Kirksville residents to come, indulge in refreshments and vote for their favorite piece of art.

MOSI president Colleen Wagner established the art guild during 2013 because she said she thought northeastern Missouri and Southern Iowa needed a place where artists could come together, share their work and encourage each other to become better artists.

“Our goal is to help, support, encourage and motivate artists to be the best artists they can be,” Wagner said. “Art is important because it gives people an opportunity to create something brand new. Art, to me, is like bread and butter. I would find it very difficult to not have art in my life and to not have an opportunity to create art.”
